Islanders Beat Panthers And Are A Step Closer Of The Playoffs

With 9 victories in their last 12 matches, the Islanders are certainly getting closer to clinching a playoff berth. Their last win came on Tuesday night when they beat the Panthers 5-2 at Uniondale, NY. Michael Grabner was the top scorer for New York with 2 goals, one during the first period and one during the second. Matt Moulson, Mark Streit and Radek Martinek also scored for the home team while Dmitry Kulikov and Marcel Goc each had a goal for Florida.

With the victory the Islanders also managed to sweep their season series against the Panthers and the win it’s also allowing NY to be a step closer of making it to the playoffs this season and although they will not be playing anymore games at home for the rest of their schedule, the team remains confident about their chances of getting a ticket to the postseason. On this, Islanders captain Mark Streit mentioned that “We found a way to get another big two points and we go on our road trip with confidence.”

As of now, New York is seventh at the Eastern Conference and they are seeking their first playoffs appearance since 2007.

Washington Beat Toronto And Remain Atop Of Their Division

The Capitals handled the Maple Leafs the second defeat of their past four games on Tuesday as they beat them 5-1 and the victory also meant the eight straight for a Washington team that is now 24-17-2. Alex Ovechkin scored one for his team and became the top scorer of the league with 28 goals this season. Marcus Johansson, Jack Hillen and Martin Erat also scored for the locals while goaltender Braden Holtby finished with 29 saved shots.

Ovechkin not only scored but he also put up an assist for Erat’s goal during the second period and for many, the good work he’s been doing can only be rewarded with one thing only: The MVP honors.  The captain of the Capitals was named MVP back in 2008 and 2009 and when asked if the player deserves to be named most valuable player this year, coach  Adam Oates mentioned that “I’m obviously very biased about that, so my answer would be, yeah, absolutely. Alex has really led our team. You see it every night now.”

With only 5 games to play, Washington leads the Southeast division and is 4 points ahead of their immediate follower, the Winnipeg Jets.

NBA: Miami Outshines Cavaliers

The Miami Heat continues to shine as one of the favorite seeds to pull the 2012-13 NBA Championship title, especially after obtaining a solid away victory at the Quicken Loans Arena in Ohio this last Monday, April 15^th. In this case the Heat was able to steal a slight 96-95 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Even with a B-Squad the Heat continues to shine as the playoffs approach. With King LeBron James on the bench, it was Norris Cole, Miami’s point guard, who was able to deliver a solid appearance with 16 points, 11 rebounds, and 9 assists. Miami is currently holding the spot as the No. 1 seed of the Eastern conference with a solid 65-16 record which continues to earn the squad the leadership of the Southeast division as well.

The Cavs were simply incapable of matching up against the former NBA champs this last Monday. It was thanks to Tristan Thompson who led the Cavs with 16 points and 13 rebounds that the team remained on the court. Still, according to Thompson the squad continues to struggle to establish strong defensive-offensive strategies that will turn their game around. Currently Cleveland stands in the 5^th spot of the Central division with a 24-57 record.

The Heat will now prepare to face the Orlando Magic at the American Airlines Arena this Wednesday, April 17^th, while the Cavs will now prepare to visit the Charlotte Bobcats at the Time Warner Cable Arena that same night.

NBA: Brooklyn Outlasts Wizards

The Brooklyn Nets were able to once again deliver a solid display of their strong and thus ambitious game play this last Monday, April 15^th, at the Barclays Center in NYC. In this case the Nets were able to outlast the Washington Wizards with a 106-101 home victory.

Once again the Nets continue to prove to their fans that they are definitely ready to encounter the playoffs with a solid game play. It was Kris Humphries who led the NYC squad this time with 20 points, 9 rebounds, and 2 assists. The Nets continue to hold a strong pace as they prepare to enter the playoffs stage with a solid 48-33 record and in the 2^nd spot of the Atlantic division.

The Wizards remain at the bottom of the pit and incapable of pulling consecutive victory streaks. In this case Washington was led by Trevor Booker who was able to finish the match with 16 points, and 13 rebounds, and 2 assists. Yet, it was still not enough to overcome one of the top seeds of the Eastern conference. The Wizards currently stand in the 3^rdspot of the Southeast division with a 28-52 record.

The Nets will now prepare to face the Detroit Pistons at the Barclays Center this coming Wednesday, April 17^th, while the Wizards will now prepare to visit the Chicago Bulls at the United Center that same night.

NBA:  Bobcats Beat Knicks

With the 2012-13 NBA playoffs at midst of only a few more matches, one of the weakest teams in the league was able to out shadow one of the top seeds of the Eastern conference this last Monday, April 15^th, at the Time Warner Cable Arena in North Carolina. In this case the Charlotte Bobcats were able to defeat the New York Knicks with a solid 106-95 home win.

Despite encountering early in the season that the playoffs were simply out of reach, the Bobcats were simply able to leave this all behind for one night to conquer one of the top seeds of the current season. In this case it was thanks to Kemba Walker who was able to finish the match with 23 points, 4 rebounds, and 13 assists. Still, the Bobcats were simply able to rally through a NY B-squad. According to Bobcats guard Gerald Henderson the team still wants to succeed and they will continue playing until the final quarter is over. Currently Charlotte stands in the 5^th spot of the Southeast division with a 20-61 record.

The Knicks remain at the top of the Atlantic division, ready to face the playoffs. Still, a loss against one of the weakest teams in the league can stain a champ’s rep. It was Chris Copeland who led the Knicks with an outstanding 32 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 assists. The Knicks are currently holding to the 2^nd spot of the Eastern conference and to the 1^st spot of the Atlantic division with a 53-28 record.

The Bobcats will now prepare to face the Cleveland Cavaliers at the Time Warner Cable Arena this coming Wednesday, April 17^th, while the Knicks will now prepare to receive the Atlanta Hawks at Madison Square Garden that same night.

NBA: Bulls Crush Magic

The Chicago Bulls were able to ratify once again why they’ve assured a spot in the upcoming playoffs this last Monday, April 15^th, at the Amway Center in Florida. In this case the Bulls were able to crush the Orlando Magic with a solid 102-84 away victory.

The Bulls remain solid, consistent, and calm as the playoffs approach. It was once again thanks to Carlos Boozer, who finished the match with 22 points and 6 rebounds, and to Luol Deng, who was able to add an extra 18 points and 8 assists, that the Bulls looked so solid on the courts. According to former Bulls MVP Derrick Rose the team is finally ready to take on a larger challenge and the hopefully the team will be able to deliver a solid appearance in the playoffs. Currently Chicago stands as the 5^th seed of the Eastern conference and in the 2^nd spot of the Central division with a 44-37 record.

The Magic proved once again incapable of withholding against a superior squad. In this case the Magic was led by Nikola Vucevic who led the team with 17 points and 14 rebounds. Still, Orlando currently holds the worst record of the season as it stands in the 5^th spot of the Southeast division with a 20-61 overall record.

The Bulls will now prepare to face the Washington Wizards at the United Center this coming Wednesday, April 17^th, while the Magic will now prepare to visit the Miami Heat at the American Airlines Arena that same night.

Flyers Beat Canadiens By A 4-Goal Difference

The Flyers finally won a game after losing their previous four as they beat the Canadiens by an impressive final score of 7-3. This was the eighteenth victory of the season for Philadelphia and the second straight defeat for Montreal, whom are in danger of losing 3 in a row for the first time during the current season as they are playing against the Penguins, one of the best teams in the NHL right now, on Wednesday.

In fact, the Canadiens have lost by a difference of four goals in two consecutive games and although they already clinched a playoff spot, Coach Michel Therrien wasn’t too happy with those stats and on this he mentioned that “Since we clinched, our intensity and concentration level, our attention to detail and our work ethic, have fallen a lot.”

Scott Harnell was the top scorer for Philly with 3 goals while teammates Erik Gustafsson, Claude Giroux, Wayne Simmonds and Jakub Voracek scored one each. Max Pacioretty scored the first for the home team and Brendan Gallagher and Alex Galchenyuk scored the next two for the Canadiens during the second period.

Canucks Eliminate Predators From Playoff Contention

The Predators are officially out of the NHL playoffs after a devastating 5-2 loss to the Canucks on Monday night at Bridgestone Arena as they have lost 10 of their last 11. Ryan Kessler scored two goals for Vancouver and Roberto Luongo was also quite impressive as he finished the match with 36 stopped shots. Alex Burrows, Derek Roy and Jason Garrison were the other scorers for the visiting team while Bobby Butler and Nick Spaling came up with one goal each for Nashville.

Although they have no chances of making it to the postseason anymore, Predators Captain Shea Weber believes that they still have to put up a good effort in order to please the fans and on this he mentioned that “We still have to play hard. It’s obviously tough. We have to find a way to battle here in the last games and try to get some wins.”

As of now, Vancouver has won 5 of their last 6 and they currently hold a nice 5-point advantage over the Minnesota Wild at the Northwest division with a record of 24-12-6. The next challenge for the Canucks comes on Tuesday when they play the Blues at a road game at St Louis.

Chicago Blackhawks Beat Blues At St Louis

The Blackhawks acquired their fifth victory in a row on Sunday night after defeating the Blues 2-0 thanks to goals by Marian Hossa and Bryan Bickell plus an excellent defending job by goaltender Corey Crawford, who finished the match with 30 stopped shots.

For St Louis’ captain David Backes the loss to Chicago simply represented a slight slip in his team’s quest for the Stanley Cup and on this he mentioned that “One of the things about the condensed schedule is if you start to dwell on your past or how good you’ve been, how bad you’ve been, quickly it can bite you.”

Detroit Beat Nashville And Are 7Th In The West

The Red Wings made it to 20 victories this season on Sunday night after defeating the Predators 3-0 at Nashville. None of the teams scored during the first period and Henrik Zetterberg had the first goal of the game during the second while Johan Franzen and Justin Abdelkader scored the other two for Detroit during the third. This was a much needed win for the Red Wings as they had lost 3 straight before this match. For the Predators things are just getting worst every game as this loss represented their sixth in a row.

The win also allowed Detroit to make it to the 8th place in the Western Conference with 47 points, the same number than seventh place the Minnesota Wild. Despite his team’s recently struggles, goaltender Jimmy Howard, who finished with 22 saves for the Red Wings against the Predators, said that he’s confident about getting two wins in a row as he mentioned that “I think a lot of people would be happy to see us miss the playoffs. We have to go out there and play with the same sense of urgency when we get out to Calgary.”

Adam Scott Wins The Masters At Augusta National

Australian golfers have been trying to win a Masters for generations and they finally got one as Adam Scott obtained the famous green jacket on Sunday after winning at Augusta National. The Aussie’s victory didn’t came easy as he had to play a playoff round versus Angel Cabrera from Argentina after the two finished at 9-under.

Cabrera is a two-time Majors winner, including a victory at Augusta National Golf Club back in 2009 and although he was close to get his second Masters win, 32 year-old Scott managed to take away such glorious achievement from the Argentinean and gave the Australians a title that had eluded them for a long time. On losing to Scott, Cabrera mentioned that “That’s how golf is. I had my chance to win it. Adam is truly a good winner.”

Although this is the first time that an Aussie player wins a Masters title, Greg Norman had finished as the runner-up in the past and Scott thanked the veteran for what he did for Australia before as he mentioned that “There was one guy who inspired a nation of golfers, and that’s Greg Norman. Part of this definitely belongs to him.”

Otto Porter Will Enter The NBA Draft

This past college Basketball season the NCAA named Otto Porter the Big East’s player of the year and after two seasons playing for Georgetown, Porter has announced that he will be entering the NBA Draft.

The player averaged sixteen points and seven rebounds for the Hoyas last season. He helped his team to a share of the conference’s title but the Hoyas were finally upset at the round of 64 by Florida Gulf Coast. Porter, who is proficient when it comes to defend different positions and handles the ball quite well, is expected to be a top ten pick.

The 2011 Bahrain Grand Prix was cancelled due to the country’s instability but the race went on the following year despite a similar situation. This year things are even more worrisome because the kingdom’s police are arresting and intimidating people from villages located close to the race tracks.

In the opinion of many, the organizers must cancel the event because of human rights violations but since the race brings a lot of international prestige to the small nation and because the ruling family is heavily involved in the sport (they are co-owners of McLaren), chances are that the event will indeed take place.

NBA: Knicks Outlast Indiana

The New York Knicks were able to reaffirm why they are currently the top team in their division and why they are currently holding to one of the top spots of their conference as well, this last Sunday, April 14^th, at Madison Square Garden in NYC. In this case the Knicks were able to pull solid 90-80 home victory over the Indiana Pacers.

It was Lance Stephenson who was able to lead the Pacers with 22 points and 4 rebounds. Yet, it was not enough for the Pacers to successfully outshine the Knicks. Currently the Pacers stand as the leaders of the Central division with a solid 49-31 record and possibly as the 3^rd best seed of the Eastern conference.

The Knicks will now prepare to visit the Charlotte Bobcats at the Time Warner Cable Arena this Monday, April 15^th, while the Pacers will now prepare to face the Boston Celtics at the TD Garden this coming Tuesday, April 16^th.

NBA: 76ers Defeat Cavaliers

The Philadelphia 76ers were able to end their last home appearance with a solid victory this last Sunday, April 14^th, at the Wells Fargo Center in Pennsylvania. In this case the 76ers were able to pull a solid 91-77 home win over the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The 76ers were led by Spencer Hawes who finished the match with 14 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. Despite win, the 76ers still remain with only an illusion of what could have been a positive season. According to Hawes himself the squad continues to struggle to recover from a poor season performance in order to reappear next year with a solid squad. However, Philadelphia currently stands in the 4^th spot of the Atlantic division with a 33-47 record.

The Cavs have found themselves in the same spot as the 76ers for the last few matches; blindly pursuing victories with no real benefit but to vaguely disguise the squad’s overall unsuccessful performance. In this case the Cavs were led by Tristan Thompson who was able to finish the match with 12 points, 12 rebounds and 2 assists. Still, the Cavs currently stand in the 5^th spot of the Central division with a 24-55 record.

The 76ers will now prepare to visit the Detroit Pistons at the Palace of Auburn Hills this Monday, April 15^th, while the Cavs will now prepare to face the Miami Heat at the Quicken Loans Arena this same night.

Despite their strong defensive efforts, the Bulls were still incapable of matching up against the top offense of the Eastern conference. In this case the Bulls were led by Carlos Boozer who was able to finish the game with only 16 points, 20 rebounds, ad 3 assists. Still, Chicago continues to hold the 2^nd spot of the Central division with a 43-37 record.

The Heat will now prepare to visit the Cleveland Cavaliers at the Quicken Loans Arena this Monday, April 15^th, while the Bulls will now prepare to face the Orlando Magic at the Amway Center this same night.

NBA: Raptors Out-Shadow Nets

The Toronto Raptors were able to pull a solid victory against one of the top teams of the Atlantic conference this last Sunday, April 14^th, at the Air Canada Centre in Ontario. In this case the Raptors were able to pull a 93-87 home win over the Brooklyn Nets.

The Raptors were not only able to obtain their 32^nd victory the season this last Sunday over one of the top teams of Eastern conference, but were also able to tight up the Nets’ playoff status as the approach their stand among the best. In this case the Raptors were led by DeMar DeRozan who was able to finish the match with an outstanding 36 points and 5 rebounds. Still, the Raptors currently stand in the 5^th spot of the Atlantic division with a 32-48 record and hoping for a better level of performance for the next NBA season.

On the other hand, the Nets do remain with a spot to the playoffs. Yet, the Brooklyn squad could have lost its opportunity to earn the 3^rd spot of the Eastern conference as they continue to strive for home advantage. Still, the loss didn’t stop Deron Williams from leading the Nets with 30 points and 7 assists. The Nets remain in the 2^nd spot of the Atlantic division with a 47-33 record.

The Raptors will now prepare to visit the Atlanta Hawks at the Phillips Arena this coming Tuesday, April 16^th, while the Nets will now prepare to face the Washington Wizards at the Barclays Center this Monday, April 15^th.
