Lombardi doesn’t have that much faith in Newton

Auburn University quarterback Cam Newton, who will participate in the NFL Draft for next season, is a favorite among many. However, former NFL executive Michael Lombardi is a bit more skeptical on the kid’s abilities, saying he should work on his offensive scheme if he truly wants to make it to the NFL. “I think the hardest thing now is the college game has moved further away from the pro game. The college offenses, Cam Newton’s thrown what, 285 passes? In an offense that doesn’t resemble anything in pro football,” Lombardi said. “Now you say he’s in shotgun. But the shotgun is completely different than the shotgun in our league. It’s a completely different league. So you have to spend time understanding what they’re going through and what they’re taught and how their r... more

“In the best and the worst” that is what being a team means and that is exactly what Wake Forest coach Tom Walter did when his freshman outfielder Kevin Jordan needed a kidney transplant and no one in his family was a suitable match for a donation. "When we recruit our guys, we talk about family and making sacrifices for one another, it is something we take very seriously. I had the support of my family, Wake Forest and my team. To me it was a no-brainer." Walter said before the operation. Walter donated a kidney to Jordan on Monday at Emory Hospital in Atlanta. Doctors said both are fine and recovering well from the surgeries. Get information on how to start your business using pay per head solutions.... more

Floyd Raven’s mom just was trying to help him when she sent a letter of intent to Mississippi on Wednesday morning since she didn’t know he decided to go to Texas A&M, according to Raven. "Long story short, my mom thought she was helping me out," Raven said in an interview with The Associated Press on Wednesday evening. "I wasn't home and she sent it in. I never told her I had changed my mind to Texas A&M. I forgive her for it. It was an honest mistake." The confusion started when the lady sent a letter to help his son via fax to Mississippi school, where they had problems trying to read the letter and when they asked for another one they received a decline from Raven. Raven chose Texas A&M because their direction of their program was going. "I just liked the direc... more

Last Monday, Auburn scored a 22-19 victory over Oregon, winning the acclaimed Bowl Championship Series title. “Winning on the field,” Bowl Championship Series title said after the game. “You might not always be the media favorite or the favorites of the game. People might want to hate you for this or that, but at no point can they ever argue that there was a better team than us this year.” Auburn coach Gene Chizik also expressed his feelings and pride for the team to the press. "When you go in the locker room last night and you look at 100 guys that 15 weeks ago nobody would have gave a dime for to win a national championship -- which is fact -- and you see them look at you, and your coaches are saying 'thank you' to the players, and the players are saying 'thank you' to the ... more

Andrew Luck turns down $50 million

Stanford University quarterback Andrew Luck just rejected an over 50 million-dollar contract for the NFL Drafts in 2011. He’d rather stay in school and get his degree in Architecture. Like that’s going to give him more benefits and satisfaction than ridiculous amounts of money for playing his favorite sport. But who are we to judge, right? "I am committed to earning my degree in architectural design from Stanford University and am on track to accomplish this at the completion of the spring quarter of 2012," Luck said in a statement issued through the school. It’s not like his father is making him do it or anything. "It’s not like the NFL is going anywhere, it’s one of the best run leagues in the world. It will still be there when he graduates," said Mr. Luck. "He comes f... more

After days of speculation if Rich Rodriguez would be fired or not, finally the Michigan Wolverines took the decision on Wednesday and let him go. The decision comes after three years of disappointing embarrassing losses and NCAA violations at college football’s winningest program. "Michigan is not used to this." "I believe this is the best decision for the future of Michigan football. We have not achieved at the level that I expect." Dave Brandon said after meet with Rodriguez on Tuesday and Wednesday to discuss the situation and got in an agreement on the situation. There is a speculated short list of candidates to replace Rodriguez in which appears Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh, a former Wolverines quarterback, and former Michigan assistant Brady Hoke, now San Diego State's head... more

Wizard of Oz recreated during Wolverines- Illini Game (video)

When watching the Wolverines (67) versus the Illinois Fighting Illini (65) game last Saturday, I had the feeling I was not in Michigan anymore. Perhaps it was the fact that I had never seen so many points been scored in Michigan in the past or the Wolverines’ over-the-rainbow celebration. But of course, there was also that amazing performance by the Michigan Marching Band recreating the Wizard of Oz movie in the half-time. The Band’s unique presentation featured the musical’s most famous melodies, dancing, narration, acting and letters made out of the crew from the Marching Band, turning the word “Ohio” into “Oh no!” People cheered loudly at the wicked witch and the scarecrow. It is refreshing and surely appreciated to see something different done this days and put so much... more

Amazing: “A really slow quarterback sneak” (video)

This is definitely for much the best football trick play I have ever seen. It came from a middle school coach in Corpus Christi, Texas, and his eighth-grade quarterback Jason Garza, who casually advances the ball against a bunch of defensive players when they were down 6-0 with one minute to go in the third quarter of their championship game against rival Wynn Seale Saturday. The play came after getting flagged for a penalty. Driscoll Rangers coach Art Rodriguez told the Daily News that the ruse was drawn up by his assistant. It was the first time they had ever tried it. "They marked out five yards, but then (Eighth-grade quarterback Jason Garza) tells the center they're marking out five more yards," says Rodriguez. John De Los Santos, assistant coach of the Corpus Christi, Texas, sc... more

Rumored changes on Wolverines staff dismissed

After many rumors regarding possible changes in the Wolverines’ defensive staff following the team’s loss at Penn State on Saturday night—the third one in a row, Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez announced that is leaving his defensive staff unchanged. "We've dealt with quite a few (rumors) over the last few years, haven't we? That happens in sports and life in general. You deal with it, so I don't mind answering the question,” Rodriguez said. "I don't know how these rumors get started. Everybody is frustrated on defense, our staff is frustrated, but it's always a collective effort when you win, and a collective effort when you lose, collective effort when you play well and a collective effort when you play poorly." Defensive coordinator Greg Robinson and his assistants have been cr... more
