Running back Mark Ingram to miss opener
Alabama’s running back Mark Ingram will have to miss Saturday night’s college football season opener against San Jose State due to a knee injury. Alabama Coach Nick Saban said today in an announcement that Ingram suffered the injury yesterday at the practice, and that he will have to be ruled out for Saturday’s game. This morning, the winner of the Heisman Trophy had an arthroscopic procedure.
“It was a situation where everyone involved thought it would be better to take care of now, so he would not have any issues with it later in the season,” Saban said.
Sophomore Trent Richardson with 145 runs, 751 yards and 8 touchdowns last year will take Ingram’s spot.
Saban said Ingram’s status would be day to day after this weekend. The Crimson Tide play No. 19 Penn State at home on Sept. 11.
“This is not an injury that will affect Mark’s future ability to make a full recovery in a relatively short time frame,” Saban said.
The Tide have a critical game next week (Sept. 11) when Penn State invades Tuscaloosa.
