Washington suspended permanently

Missouri Tiger Derrick Washington has been permanently suspended for his charges on felony sexual assault that occurred in the month of June.

The team captain allegedly entered a woman’s closed bedroom and assaulted her in her sleep.

Washington’s bond has been set at $4,500. Per Missouri’s athletic department policy, any player accused of a felony is not allowed to rejoin the team until the issue is resolved.

“Nothing about this decision will affect his existing athletic scholarship,” the university said in a release.

With a total of 1,901 yards in 177 runs and 27 touchdowns, this has been Washington’s best preseason.

“We’ve worked real hard to develop a program that has a very good reputation for being first-class and disciplined,” Coach Gary Pinkel said. “We’ve taken a few hits. And the only way you’re going to get that back is to earn it back, and that’s what we intend to do.”

“He’s indefinitely suspended for disciplinary reasons,” Pinkel said. “As I’ve done for ten years, I don’t ever talk about those issues.
“I tell my players when something happens, I don’t do that.”

Regardless of the legal resolution against him, Derreck Washington’s college football career with the Missouri Tigers is history.
