Lakers defeat Clippers

The Lakers faced their town rivals, the Clippers yesterday night at Staples Center, and the purple and gold from Kobe Bryant (who scored 24 points) obtained a valuable 96-91 victory over Chris Paul’s new team. Also for the Lakers, Pau Gasol finished the game with 23 points and ten rebounds, while Andrew Bynum scored 19.

For the Clippers, Blake Griffin ended with 26 points, and Mo Williams and Caron Butler scored 16 apiece, while Paul only scored 4 points and had twelve assists in his return from a 5-game absence due to an injury (his last match before this one was the Clippers victory over the Lakers a couple of weeks ago at this same arena).

Nadal to the final of Australian Open

Rafael Nadal just defeated Roger Federer at the semifinals of the Australian Open, and is just waiting for the winner of the match between Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray, as that will be his rival at the Final match of the tournament. On the women’s singles, Maria Sharapova will be facing Victoria Azarenka in the Final, to be played on Saturday. This is the 6th Grand Slam for the Russian, while this is the debut for the Belarusian.

Howard doesn’t discard Boston

After this short season is over in a few months, Dwight Howard will become an unrestricted free agent, and there are many teams where Superman can land, including the Celtics, and when asked if he would like to play for the Boston team, Howard said that “Always, Always. I’d always listen to play for a team like that. They have the championship mentality, it means a lot. Like I said, I like the team. They play hard and they go after it, and that’s what I like.”

Schiano to be hired by Bucs

Last week the Buccaneers made public their intentions of hiring Chip Kelly from the Ducks, but then Kelly announced that he was staying with the college team. Now Tampa Bay is focusing on hiring another NCAA coach in Greg Schiano from Rutgers (he has been with that team for eleven seasons), and apparently Schiano has accepted the position, though it hasn’t been officially announced.
