Celtics Players: Injured But Ready, Sixers Vs Boston’s Offense

Coach Rivers expects everybody will be ready for game 3

Boston took game one, and the Sixers managed to even the series 1-1 at game two at TD Garden, but tonight the Philadelphia franchise will host the Celtics for the third game of this Eastern Conference Semifinal series at Wells Fargo Arena. Coach Doc Rivers said that he expects all of his players to be available for the match, and they will also be well rested as the whole team took Tuesday off in order to save some energy for what is coming.

Three Celtics players are injured, but they know the team needs them and are willing to play whenever they are required to. One of them is Avery Bradley who is currently recovering from an ailing left shoulder. Ray Allen is also on that list as he is recovering from a balky right ankle.

And on trying to get better for game 3, Allen mentioned that “I went down to the health club and I was so tempted to get on the treadmill. But I just said, ‘Don’t do it. Just leave it alone.’ I put myself in a good position to be ready for tonight, that’s all I can say. That’s what I’ve been told to do.”

But probably the most important player that the Celtics cannot afford to bench is Paul Pierce, who will be playing tonight with a sprained medial collateral ligament, and although he might be suffering while performing at the court, Pierce won’t admit that to anyone, as when he was asked about it, he simply responded that “I don’t know what you mean. There’s nothing wrong with my knee.”

Sixers will focus on controlling the Celtics offense tonight

Although most people focus on how proficient Boston is when it comes to their defensive game, 76ers coach Doug Collins mentioned that he is taking a different approach and that he actually has been studying their offense more in order to try to find out how the Sixers can diminish such efficiency from the Celtics.

Philly got a little luck on game 2, as Boston’s players missed a lot of shots, including 9 in a row from Brandon Bass, and if the Sixers manage to control the offensive performance from the Celtics and get lucky again, then they will have some good chances of winning the third game of this series.

Miscommunication between the players was also another important factor that prevented the Celtics from winning game 2 at their own court, and the players are aware of that, with Allen commenting that “Offensively, I don’t think we shared the ball enough to win.”

Spurs Take 1-0 Lead, Pacers Even Series 1-1

Tim Duncan had 26 points, Manu Ginobili finished with 22 and the Spurs took a 1-0 lead after defeating the Clippers 108-92 at the first game of their semifinals series. For Los Angeles, the top scorer was Eric Bledsoe with 23 points while teammates Caron Butler and Blake Griffin had 15 apiece, though the strong effort from Bledsoe and the rest of the Clippers was not enough to defeat a rival that was playing at home and whom have not lost in 34 days.

Coach Gregg Popovich was quite satisfied with Duncan’s performance, and on this, he mentioned that “Tim was solid as usual. He’s played like that all year long. He’s not going to do anything that will be a highlight film for TV, but a highlight film for coaches. He’s an anchor out there.”

Rookie Kawhi Leonard garnered some attention as he played really well, finishing with sixteen points (hitting his three 3-pointers), 3 steals and 3 offensive rebounds.

The game was pretty even during the first half, but by the third quarter the Spurs managed to start pulling away, taking an impressive 19-point lead during the period which was impossible for the Clippers to match, allowing San Antonio to the win at AT&T Center. The next game of the series will be played on Thursday.

Pacers beat Miami, even series 1-1

Miami won the first game of their series against the Pacers at American Airlines Arena, but the visitors managed to defeat the Heat 78-75 at game two and put things 1-1 with the series now heading to Bankers Life Fieldhouse for game 3 on Thursday. For the winning team the top scorer was David West with 16 while teammate George Hill had 15. For the Heat, Lebron James finished with 28 and Dwayne Wade had 24.

And on winning such an important game against a team that is one of the favorites to get the title, guard Hill mentioned that “We stayed together. Great team effort. Everyone was counting on each other, depending on each other, communicating. We knew they were going to make shots. They’re great players but we figured they’re capable of missing some, too, and they missed the ones we really needed them to miss the most.”

The win for Indiana was also quite remarkable as the Heat had come up victorious for the past thirteen Eastern Conference postseason games at their home court.

University of Idaho Football Player Shot Dead

Twenty two year-old University of Idaho football player Ken McRoyal, of Carson, was shot dead at a party in Los Angeles. Detectives are working on determining what was the cause and are trying to find a suspect. The muder took place in the early hours of Sunday as the victim was attending a photoshoot to promote a new women’s clothing line.

A second man was hit in the shooting and was treated in hospital. Detective Victor Marin declared that they have not been able to estabish whether he was actually invited to the party or not.

Apparently, Mc Royal was shot as he got into an argument with a a few people, however this has not been yet confirmed.

Detective Marin said that they will be interrogating about 40 to 50 people who were at the party that took place at the Brewery Arts Complex which is a former Pabst Blue Ribbon Brewery near the Los Angeles River. It was converted into some kind of artist’s loft and is often used for filming and shooting sessions.

McRoyal was a wide receiver. He caught 6 passes for 35 yards in 8 games for the University in 2011. He was from New Orleans but moved with his parents to LA after the Hurricane Katrina. He first went to high School Carson, then moved from El Camino College in Torrance to Idaho a few months ago.

Robb Akey, the Idaho Coach, is totally devasted, amongst many others. He said that they all lost a friend, a brother, a teammate, and that most of all, a mother lost a son.

Akey recalls how the last time he had a conversation with McRoyal, they were both so excited about him earning his scholarship for the 2012 season. McRoyal had played to two previous seasons at El Camino. Akey remembers the sparkles in his eyes and the smilling bright face of the young player. A team of this sort is pretty much like an extended family; the players know they are loved and cared for, and Akey has at least the consolation to know that he had a chance to say that to McRoyal the last time he saw him.

Dominique Blackman, the Idaho Quarterback, was not only a cousin of McRoyal, but also his best friend. He admitted, devastated, that McRoyal had sent him a text only minutes before he was shot! He was asking him to come for him in Hollywood, but Blackman could not make it on time. For many, a good friend and a great football player has gone.

Chicago Bears Signed 3rd Rounder Brandon Hardin

The Chicago Bears just finished signing their 2012 draft class Tuesday, and announced they signed third-round safety Brandon Hardin to a four-year contract. The financial terms were not disclosed. Hardin had not signed any contract before the beginning of the club’s 3 day rookie minicamp last week, but he participated in some drills following an injury waiver.

Hardin, 6.3 feet tall and with a weight of 217 pounds, started 15 of 38 games when he played for the Beavers, registered 105 tackles, 3 forced fumbles, 7 passes defended, 1 interception and 3 tackles for loss.

It took some time for the sides to agree on a deal, partly because of the wide amounts of bonus money that is paid to third-round picks, and also because there had never been that many contracts for third-rounders in the league; it was all rather difficult to position. On the other hand, the deals made for the first-rounders and players between the fourth and seventh rounds all fall into slots thus they are easier to accomplish.

Hardin, a former standout conerback at Oregon State who had missed the whole of the 2011 season because of a fractured shoulder will be now making the transition to safety for the Bears.

He claims to find the whole process to be more challenging mentally than physically; it is not just all about learning the tricks of a new position, but also those of a new coach, with new coverages, and new schemes. So far he feels he has been doing great and learned a significant amount.

Hardin is looking forward to sort of work his way into a rotation, together with 2011 rookie Chris Conte, with Craig Steltz, Anthony Walters and Major Wright.

As Hardin explains, the Bears are known for their toughness. This is a team that wants to score every play, and being a physical safety means it comes down to hitting, making safe takeway and tackles, being in the box, there is a lot to learn, and little time to do it!

This selection now means that the Bears have draft Oregon State Beavers in 2 chronological drafts, with Hardin getting together with his ex teammate Stephen Paea in Chicago. This is the 8^th sequential drafts in which Chicago have shown they need more Safety; Now this year they got Brandon Hardin, and if that does not bring a good flavor of optimism to the game then what will?

Sixers Even Series With Celtics, Thunder Beat Lakers

Sixers makes it 1-1 after victory over Boston

If you want to talk about close games, then talk about the series between the Celtics and the Sixers, as the first game was taken by Boston 92-91 and the second game in the series was taken by the 76ers 82-81. For the winning team, Jrue Holiday was the top scorer with 18, while Andres Iguodala finished the match with 13 and Evan Turner and Lavoy Allen finished with 10 apiece.

For the Celtics, the top scorer was someone that had not made major contributions lately in Ray Allen as he finished with 17 while Kevin Garnett continues to be one of the main men in the lineup lately as he had 15.

This was the second game of the series that is played at TD Garden, and it signifies a really important victory for Philadelphia, whom managed to tie the series 1-1 thanks to this road victory. And on the importance of the win, coach Doug Collins mentioned that “Our young guys just keep growing and they’re really becoming me. I’m so proud of them. I have to tell you all season long we couldn’t win these games and now our guys are believing they can do it, and it is pretty special to watch.”

Thunder Beat Lakers, takes 1-0 lead

Andrew Bynum and Kobe Bryant scored 20 apiece, but it was the Thunder who got a valuable win that put the series versus the Lakers 1-0 in favor of the OKC team. And this one was certainly meaningful for the Thunder as they defeated their long-awaited rival at Chesapeake Energy Arena. The next game in the series will be played at the same arena tomorrow, and Oklahoma City hopes that they can take that game in order to take an advantage in the series that will be hard to match for the Lakers.

Russell Westbrook was the top scorer for the Thunder with 27, while teammate Kevin Durant also had a great game with 25 points, and their contributions were certainly enough against a Lakers team that seems to be ready to fight with determination against any team either at home or on the road.

On the win, Durant mentioned that “We actually kinda needed a few days off to be honest with you. It was a long season and then coach did a great job of letting us compete hard in practice to stay sharp and we came out with a lot of energy.”
