Davis-Machida at UFC 140? Still not confirmed If Phil Davis and Lyoto Machida fight, the bout is sure to produce a title contender, but when Dana White announced on twitter that the Ultimate Fighting Championship was setting up the Davis-Machida for UFC 140 in December, he forgot that “Mr. Wonderful” is still recovering from surgery on his knee, in fact, Davis was the most surprised when he heard about White’s comments, as he mentioned that "All of this is news to me. I'm still recovering and training. That's pretty much the story. I guess the boss must have looked to book me. ... I'm just not a go yet." In despite of this, the UFC hasn’t ruled Davis out yet. Fairley hasn’t debuted yet The Lions paid $10 million to Nick Fairley for four yea... more

Injured players who are recovering from surgery will have to be treated by third parties due to the imposed lockout on the National Football League. Cleveland Browns president Mike Holmgren referred to this particular issue earlier this week. "They can be treated and talk to the doctor who did the surgery,” Holmgren said. “It has to be off campus and the treatment has to be conducted by a third party, but that third party can be in communication with us. All our injured players are being taken care of and we will know their progress. There is no communication now between the club, club employees and the players and if we just stick by that rule then some of these other things have to go another way." Browns running back Montario Hardesty missed his entire rookie season due to an ant... more

The owners of NFL teams New England Patriots and New York Jets have expressed their opinions on the new CBA issue. New England Patriots chairman and CEO Robert Kraft released the following statement Saturday. "Going into these union negotiations, I was very optimistic that an agreement could be reached before the end of December if both sides were committed to the negotiations. The same was true as we approached the end of the NFL calendar year. We are fortunate to be operating in an industry that is thriving and I know that there was a deal to be done that was a win-win for both sides. I know that Commissioner (Roger) Goodell and his staff invested a tremendous amount of time and resources to negotiate an agreement that would benefit both parties and allow the league to continue to build ... more

In a statement he made for the Chicago Sun-Times, former NFL head coach and player Mike Ditka expressed his point of view on the celebrated former Auburn quarterback Cam Newton. ‘‘I would take Newton. I would take him in a heartbeat,” Ditka told the Chicago Sun-Times. “I think he gets it. He reminds me of a bigger Tim Tebow. He’s smart. He sounds good when he talks. I don’t care about that other stuff.” It comes at a surprise then, how other connoisseurs regard Newton. “With Auburns pro-day in the books, I look elsewhere for a QB before Cam Newton. Someone will gamble with him, I wouldn't,” Brian Billick posted on his Twitter account. “Simply saying, i wouldn't do it again on Cam Newton - not in the 1st round,” Billick added. Newton, who is expected to be dra... more

“Work it out without the President intervening,” says Obama

United States President Barack Obama has a word or two on the talk between owners and players that has been going on with regards to the collective bargaining agreement. “You’ve got owners, most of whom are worth close to $1 billion. You’ve got players who are making millions are dollars. My working assumption at a time when people are having to cut back, compromise and worry about making the mortgage and paying for their kids’ college education is that the two parties should be able to work it out without the President of the United States intervening,” President Obama said. The arguments between the NFL and the players can take a toll on the following season, and it’s up to them, not the President to work things out. “I’m a big football fan, but I also think for an ... more

The Green Bay Press-Gazette has recently announced that inside linebacker Aaron James "A. J." Hawk, who was released last Wednesday, will re-sign with the Packers. Hawk’s agent Mike McCartney said he was working on getting the starting linebacker back to Green Bay. “We’re putting the finishing touches on AJ signing with GB,” stated McCartney. Hawk had a $10 million base salary, which would have guaranteed a place for Hawk during the 2011 season if the linebacker had been on the 80-man roster selected to start the new season. A.J. Hawk was drafted by the Green Bay Packers fifth overall in the 2006 NFL Draft. He played college football at Ohio State. Hawk won the Lombardi Award and the Jack Lambert Trophy in 2005.
